North Shore Police have released the name of a 24 year old male who died at the scene of an incident at Verran's Corner, in the suburb of Birkdale, last night.

The deceased man's name is

MCLEAN / Bo "Snooks"

DOB 20/12/1981 - Aged 24 years

Resident of North Shore.

Police say they were called to Verran's Corner at about 6.45pm Sunday 30 April 2006. On their arrival they found ambulance staff attending to the deceased. Efforts to revive the young man at the scene were unsuccessful.

North Shore Police, Tactics Coordinator, Senior Sergeant Gary Hill, says preliminary enquiries have established that the deceased man was among a group of males who were travelling in the area in a Toyota Hi Ace van.

"The 24 year old deceased man has managed to exit the vehicle, and has then climbed onto the roof of the van while it was travelling at a regular speed," he said.

"As the vehicle has rounded a curve at the approach to Verran's Corner, the victim has lost his balance and footing, and then fallen from the roof of the moving vehicle, directly onto the road below. This is a tragic event that should not have happened."

"A 29 year old male driver and three other male passengers are assisting police with their enquiries into this incident. Police have not laid any charges at this time," he said.

"Police would especially like any members of the public who may have witnessed this incident to contact us, as soon as possible. A post mortem examination is being carried out on the deceased man today," Senior Sergeant Hill said.
