1 min read

An elderly pedestrian is in Auckland Hospital with serious injuries after he was hit by a truck while crossing a suburban road in West Auckland this afternoon.

The man who is aged in his seventies was proceeding across Edmonton Road in Henderson, when he was struck by a large truck and trailer unit. He was about one metre out from the footpath.

Police say the accident happened at about 2.00pm close to the entrance to the former Tui Glen Motor camp. The truck driver is shaken but is uninjured.

The male pedestrian was treated at the scene by medics and then taken by ambulance to Auckland Hospital. Although his injuries are considered to be life threatening, the hospital says the elderly man's present condition is stable.

Police say the weather at the time was not a factor in the accident. There are no early indicators that speed was involved. The man's name has not been released.

The Serious Crash Unit will continue its investigations into the cause of the accident.
