Three arrests in Wellington fatal crash inquiry

1 min read

Wellington CIB has arrested the drivers of three vehicles at the centre of an investigation into the death of pedestrian Amy Edward-Mintorn in the city 12 days ago.

All three young men will appear in the Wellington District Court at 2.15pm today charged with manslaughter. They are a 19-year-old from Grenada North and two 18-year-olds, both from Upper Hutt.

Detective Senior Sergeant Shane Cotter, Wellington CIB, said the charges reflect the seriousness of the fatal crash which happened at 1.40am in Cambridge Terrace on 20 August.

"Our inquiry has put the spotlight on the boy racer culture in the central city and the unnecessary exhibition of acceleration, particularly at intersections," he said.

"I can't go into detailed comment because the case is now before the court except to say that the two 18-year-olds, drivers of the vehicles which did not hit Amy, have been charged as parties to the offence committed by the 19- year-old."

Amy's family and close friends have been advised of the arrests.
