Speed tolerance lowered for Easter weekend

1 min read

Tasman District Police will be working hard to keep the roads safe over the Easter holiday period and that includes lowering the tolerance for speeding drivers to 5kmh.

The official holiday period starts at 4pm today and ends at 6am on Tuesday morning and there will be extra Police on the roads throughout that period.

Tasman District Road Policing Manager Inspector Jenni Richardson said holiday periods were inherently more dangerous for road users due to the increased traffic and the number of people are driving for longer distances and suffering fatigue.

Inspector Richardson said the main areas Police across Tasman District will be targeting are: speed, alcohol, seat belts, keeping left and slow or inconsiderate drivers.

"I want everyone in the Tasman District to have an enjoyable and relaxing Easter weekend. I will be working along side my staff to ensure that we have high visibility and we will be targeting anyone who does not comply with the road rules.

"If you make the decision to break the road rules then you lose your right to complain about the consequences," she said.
