Porirua Police have arrested a 35-year-old local man for the weekend's serious assault in Titahi Bay which hospitalised victim Paul Algar with head injuries.

Detective Sergeant Andrew Saunders, Porirua CIB, said the 35-year-old man went to the Porirua Police Station today to give himself up. The man has been arrested and charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. He will appear in the Porirua District Court tomorrow morning (Wednesday 24 January).

The incident happened about 2am on Saturday morning in the Whitehouse Road, Titahi Bay area.

"Police are pleased an arrest has been made and we thank media and the public for their help," Detective Sergeant Saunders said.

Detectives still want to find a black shoe and a metal weapon such as a bar or a spanner which may have been dropped in the Titahi Bay Road area.

"If anyone finds these items or knows where they might be, then please contact Porirua Police," Detective Sergeant Saunders said.
