1 min read

Police investigating the circumstances of a suspicious fire in the Henderson CBD yesterday have arrested a 43 year old Korean male, and charged him with murder, attempted murder, and arson.

The Officer heading the investigation Detective Senior Sergeant John SUTTON says detectives went to a Henderson CBD dental practise at about 12.45pm yesterday [Saturday 3 February 2007], after the deceased body of a female was discovered inside the first floor premises. Two men present at the time of the fire, suffered minor burns and smoke inhalation. They were treated for their injuries at Waitakere Hospital."

"Police, ESR, Fire Service investigators, completed an extensive forensic examination at the premises, and we are satisfied that the cause of the fire has been determined."

"Police have established that a liquid accelerant was used. The 42 year old Korean female victim died as a result of the blaze," he said.

"The arrested man is described as a self employed businessman, and he'll be appearing on all three charges in the Waitakere District Court tomorrow."

"Forensic experts will be required to determine the identity of the deceased so until this is known, and relatives overseas have been informed, the name of the deceased will not be disclosed. A post-mortem has been completed. These details are not being released at this time," John SUTTON said.
