1 min read

A 19 year old male had his jaw fractured in an unprovoked attack early last Saturday morning and Police are seeking witnesses.

The 19 year old was walking through Halswell with two young women after attending a private party at the Halswell Community Centre about 12.30am on Saturday 17 February.

As he walked past a group of people near the shops a male hit him in an unprovoked attack, and fractured his jaw.

The alleged offender is described as a young light skinned maori or polynesian with some facial hair. He was about 187 cm tall (6'2") with short dark straight hair. He was wearing a black puffer jacket or vest.

Senior Constable John Stevenson says the young man has had to have two metal plates put in his jaw and is suffering from a lot of pain. He has already been re-admitted to hospital with complications but has now returned home.

"He will be off work for several weeks," John Stevenson says. "This was an unprovoked attack. There were a number of people around and someone will know who the attacker was."

Anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information is asked to contact Senior Constable John Stevenson phone 3440688.
