Aggravated robbery at X Base Backpackers

Wellington police need help from the public to identify two people responsible for an aggravated robbery at the X Base Backpackers on Cambridge Terrace on Tuesday.

At 11.50pm on Tuesday 13 March 2007 two men entered the hostel and spoke to a staff member on the front counter.

One of the men demanded money and presented what appeared to be a hand gun.

The staff member left the counter and went into an office while the men rifled through the till and took cash.

The first offender is described as a male, Maori, approximately 16-18 years old, 6'11" tall, and of solid build. He was wearing a grey and black hooded sweatshirt, sunglasses and a bandana or cap.

The second offender is described as a male, Maori, also aged 16-18, 5'5" tall, and of slight build. He was wearing a dark brown sweatshirt with a white emblem on the front and sunglasses.

The police need help to identify these people. Anyone with any information is asked to call the Wellington Police Station on Tel: 381 2000.
