1 min read

The name of the young man who died off New Brighton Pier late Tuesday night has been released. He was Jack Te Haenga CARROLL aged 22 of Hastings.

His death has been referred to the Coroner.

At about 11.10pm on 3 April police were advised of a male jumping off the end of New Brighton pier at Christchurch.

He was not seen to surface and the local lifeboat rescue was called out along with the Westpac Rescue helicopter.

About an hour later the body of a male in his 20's was located by police approximately 300 metres south of the pier. He was not able to be resuscitated.

Although the sea was relatively calm, it was low tide at the time resulting in shallow water around the pier.
