Railway protest 'irresponsible'

1 min read

Police describe protestors' actions in attaching themselves to the railway tracks at Templeton at midday today as irresponsible, says Inspector Rick JURY.

"The premeditated protest took considerable time and resources of the NZ Fire Service and Police," he says. "This is time that could have been used attending genuine emergencies around Christchurch for both the emergency agencies involved. On Track also had to bring staff in off other work to attend to this incident."

Two men (aged 26 and 35 years) have been arrested for interfering with the railway lines and will appear in Christchurch District Court on Thursday 3 May.
