Missing teenager walks out of Rimutaka Forest Park

1 min read

The 14-year-old boy who went missing in the Rimutaka Forest Park last night has been located safe and well after spending a night in the bush.

Wade Carson was hunting with a friend in the bush behind Camp Wainui yesterday when he became separated at about 2.00pm.

Friends and family searched for him to no avail then called the Police just before 5.00pm.

Several Search and Rescue teams were deployed to the area on Sunday night to search tracks and bush surroundings. Teams stayed out over night and recommenced searching at first light today, says Wellington Police Search and Rescue Coordinator Sergeant Jo Holden.

"Wade walked out of the bush to friends and search managers based at the Wainuiomata Golf Club. Apart from a small cut on his hand he was none the worse for his ordeal.

"He said he heard search teams calling him last night, but was too far away to make contact. He also heard the Westpac helicopter searching for him, but the cloud cover did not allow the crew to get closer to him."
