Search continues for missing West Coast driver

1 min read

Police have today resumed the search for the driver who disappeared after fleeing from Police and entering a lagoon near Greymouth in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The Police dive squad is back in the water today, however Police have growing confidence the man they are looking for has made it safely out of the water and is evading them.

West Coast Area Commander Inspector John Canning said they were also confident they knew who the person was. He said no one had been reported missing to Police.

“In situations like this, if there was a person in the water we would expect grieving family members to be gathering. That is not the case.”

Inspector Canning said the dive squad would complete a thorough search so Police would know with certainty whether the man was still in the water.

“At this stage of the investigation, with the information we have gathered, I am confident the person we are seeking has made it out of the water and we are actively working to locate him,” Inspector Canning said.

The crash scene investigation is still under way.
