Update, Waikato fatals

The name of a male pedestrian killed north of Ngaruawahia earlier this week has been released.

Sergeant Juliet Burgess of the Huntly Strategic Traffic Unit said the dead man was Miroslaf DLUGOLECKI, a 61-year-old Polish national who had been living in Hamilton.

Mr DLUGOLECKI died after being fatally struck by a northbound truck and trailer unit in a 100km/h stretch of SH1 near the intersection with Kelm Rd north of Ngaruawahia about 5.18am on Wednesday.

Meanwhile Eastern Waikato Police are working with their Canadian colleagues via Interpol to complete the family notification following a fatal collision at the intersection of SH2 and SH25 near Maramarua yesterday.

That crash is still under investigation by the Serious Crash Unit however initial indications are that a 46-year-old Canadian woman travelling as a front seat passenger in a westbound Nissan Tiida car died when the car collided with a northbound truck and trailer unit in a T-bone type collision.

The crash was at a controlled intersection where the northbound truck and trailer unit travelling on SH2 had right of way.

The male driver of the car, who is also believed to be a Canadian national, was transported to Auckland Hospital with status three injuries.

The driver of the truck was shaken but not injured in the crash.
