Bay of Plenty Police have initiated a homicide investigation after a fatal assault that occurred last night (Thursday 10 January).
Detective Inspector Tim Anderson says that Police received a 111 call in relation to a serious assault at an address in Holyoake Crescent, Kawerau about 8pm. Police arrived and found one woman and two men at the address. One of the med was deceased with fatal injuries to his neck. A formal identification of the man is yet to be established.
The residential address is under scene guard. A scene examination will take place today with forensic scientists. A forensic post mortem will also take place today.
A 31-year-old man will appear in court charged with assault today. More charges are likely.
