Offender sought for Willis Street, Wellington, stabbing

1 min read

Wellington CIB detectives have talked with 150 people who were at an inner city dance club last weekend when a man was stabbed during a fight involving a group of people.

Detective Senior Sergeant Simon Perry, Wellington CIB, says police have built up a good picture of events leading up to the fight and the stabbing, and have talked with several eyewitnesses.

The fight happened at 12.20am on Sunday morning, 4 November, after a fight at the back entrance of a club. The 18-year-old male victim ran away from the fight and was chased by another who assaulted him outside the Willis Village shops, and stabbed him in the back of the head and in his back.

The victim was treated at hospital for his injuries and discharged later that day.

Detective Senior Sergeant Perry says officers have spoken with a huge number of people who were at the club, including some who saw the stabbing.

"We're also working our way through CCTV footage and analysing the data to see if this will help the investigation and find the offenders," he says.

The offender is described as a fair skinned male Maori, aged 16 - 18 years old, of medium build with shaggy brown, slightly mohawk style hair with possibly a rat's tail. He was wearing either baggy jeans or baggy light brown 'Dickies' pants, and either a plain blue or white t shirt.

"Someone must know who this person is. We'd like to hear from anyone who can help us identify the offender.

"Our message to the offender is. Seeks some legal advice and come in and see us."
