Christchurch Police have confirmed that a driver has died in a crash this morning in Prebbleton.

The man, aged in his 20s, was the driver and sole occupant of a car which collided with a four-wheel drive vehicle at the intersection of Shands Road and Blakes Road, near Prebbleton, at around 7.30 this morning.

He was pronounced deceased at the scene by attending ambulance staff.

Police say initial enquiries indicate the 4WD was travelling south on Shands Road and collided with the other car which was travelling west on Blakes Road.

The driver and sole occupant of the 4WD was not believed to be injured but has been taken to hospital for precautionary checks, Police says. No other vehicles were involved.

The Police serious crash unit is in attendance at the scene.

The intersection of Shands Road and Blakes Road is expected to remain closed until late this morning.
