Missing Man Sighted In Central Auckland

Henderson Police say they have received information that a 69 year old man who has been missing from his home in West Auckland for three days may be in the Central Auckland area.

Brian Stanley JONES was last sighted by a friend walking in Don Buck Road, in Massey, at about 3.25pm on Monday 25 August 2008. The Police Search and Rescue team and Eagle helicopter have been involved in the ongoing search for Mr Jones. An appeal to the public has been positive. On Tuesday 26 August 2008, there were three possible sightings reported.

These were in central Auckland in Karangahape Road. At 8.10am there was a sighting at Symonds Street corner. At 3.15pm he was seen approaching members of the public by the Grafton Bridge asking for money. He appeared to be confused and disorientated. He was walking in bare feet. At 5.45pm he was near the Mobil Service Station on the corner of Karangahape and Ponsonby Road.

Police say Mr Jones suffers from dementia and ill health. He has gone missing previously and there are concerns for his safety and well being. His present appearance is likely to resemble that of a homeless man.

Anyone who has knowledge of the whereabouts of Mr Jones is asked to call the Henderson Police on 09 839 0600. The public can also call the triple one emergency number [111] police will then follow up any sightings immediately. A description and image of the missing man, has previously been released by police to the media.
