Formal ID of homicide victim still to be done

1 min read

The post-mortem examination of the woman whose body was found in a Newton apartment late yesterday afternoon is on-going and not expected to be completed today.

Police investigating her death are attempting to locate and inform her family - who are overseas - of the situation. Although no formal identification has yet been done, investigating officers are confident they know who the 30 year-old was.

Police were called to the Winchester St apartment by ambulance services that had been called by a man in the apartment. He is currently in hospital undergoing surgery on a hand wound and is expected to be hospitalised until at least the end of the week.

Police have recovered his vehicle which will undergo forensic examination. The apartment where the woman lived with two flatmates is cordoned off and is also being forensically examined.

At this stage, Police are not looking for anyone else in connection with the woman's death but are carrying out several inquiries into her background and relationship to the man in hospital.
