A man arrested just minutes after robbing a Hamilton bank yesterday has been charged with robbing another bank earlier in the year.

Detective Senior Sergeant Chris Page of Hamilton CIB said the 40-year-old man was arrested about 10am after robbing the Hillcrest Branch of the Westpac Bank on Cambridge Rd.

"That arrest came about from a combination of a rapid response from Police and proactive action by witnesses who followed the man, guiding a dog handler to an area pretty close to where the offender was eventually located on Mansel Ave."

Following interviewing by Police it was established that yesterday's robbery wasn't the first time the man had targeted a city bank.

"Our investigations have led us to believe he was responsible for the aggravated robbery of the Hamilton East Westpac Branch on 25 February.

"As a result of this the man has been charged with two offences and will be appearing in the Hamilton District Court this morning."
