Man found dead after party

1 min read

The death of a man in Taumarunui is being treated as suspicious.

Police were called around 7am yesterday morning (Saturday, 15 November) after the discovery of the man in a flat in Para Street. There had been a party in the flat the previous evening with all the partygoers known to one another. A number had stayed at the flat overnight and the man in his 50s was discovered dead the following morning.

A 100 metre cordon was put in place as ESR (Environmental Scientific) began a detailed scene examination and police started area enquiries with good co-operation from the local community.

The scene examination will be completed today and a post mortem will be carried out tomorrow (Monday, 17 November) to ascertain the exact cause of death.

The man is unlikely to be formally identified and named until tomorrow.

Anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious in the area on Friday night or early Saturday morning is asked to contact the police.
