BUS DRIVER KNIFE POINT ROBBERY

Wellington Police are investigating a knife point robbery of a 'Go Wellington' bus driver that occurred on Thursday 19 February 2009 at Miramar, Wellington.

At approximately 10:10pm the driver was parked near the bus turn-around-point situated on Darlington Road, near the intersection of Greenview Way.

Detective Sergeant John van den Heuvel said that, "using the emergency door release button the offender boarded the bus and presented a knife to the driver. He demanded the driver hand over money and he grabbed the bus cash tin before running away".

The offender was last seen running along Darlington Road towards Camperdown Road, he made off with a very small amount of cash that was contained in the tin.

The offender is described as a dark skinned male, medium build, 18 - 25 years of age and approximately 175cm in height. He spoke with a kiwi accent. He was wearing a dark coloured hoody made of a waterproof type material, dark trousers and he covered his face with a white bandana.

Attached is a photo of a cash tin similar to the one stolen. The stolen tin had 'Tom 775' written on it as well as numerous badges and stickers.

Police would like to hear from anyone who may have witnessed this robbery or seen any suspicious persons or vehicles in the area at the time. Detective Sergeant van den Heuvel also said that, "it is likely the offender discarded the cash tin shortly after committing this offence, I ask that residents living near the bus turn -around-point take some time search their properties looking for the tin".

The driver was traumatised but uninjured.
