The safe return of baby Kahu Durie and the arrest of a 54-year-old Taurmarunui man hasn’t put an end to the police investigation into the abduction.
Detective Inspector Stuart Wildon said there’s a wealth of general background and forensic inquiries that are keeping the investigation team busy.
"There’s a limit on what I can say because the matter is now before the court but our job is far from over," he said.
"We expect to complete the scene examination today of the house in Taumarunui where baby Kahu was found and also the forensic examination of the Magna car."
The car was found in Lower Hutt in a location not readily apparent to the public.
"There’s also a lot of work to do in firming up on movements of the offender."
Mr Wildon thanked the public for the information they continue to provide. "The 0800 150 499 lines are still operating although the calls have tailed off in the last 24 hours.
"We still welcome calls from people with information that might assist."
Police confirm that the Special Tactics Group was involved in the finding of baby Kahu but are not prepared to comment on the Group’s operating methods or tactics, or when STG became involved in the investigation.
About 50 staff are working on the case although some may be released later in the week.
