Takapuna police caught an escaped prisoner from Rangipo prison in Ranui(West Auckland) yesterday as a result of an ongoing investigation.
Eric Harvey (who is also known by a number of aliases) was serving a two-year sentence for fraud when he escaped in March of this year.
He had been caught importing large quantities of counterfeit US dollars and arranging for them to be exchanged for NZ currency.
Harvey is a Bulgarian National who is wanted overseas for fraud and violence crimes.
Detective Constable Gareth Pindred says, "We are understandably pleased to have located Harvey. He is an international criminal and once he has served his time in NZ he will be extradited."
