Arrest made in Alexandra incident

Police have arrested and charged an 18 year-old man in relation to an incident on Sunday night, 20 March 2016, in Alexandra after he was stopped near Queenstown in the early hours of Monday, 21 March 2016

The man has been charged with aggravated burglary, indecent assault, possession of an offensive weapon and driving with excessive breath alcohol.

He is due to appear in the Queenstown District Court today.

“I can assure the community that this was an isolated incident and the early resolution of it has been as a result of excellent cooperation between the Police and the Public," Detective Sergeant Derek Shaw says.

A Central Otago woman has been treated for minor injuries and is receiving on-going support. The victim and the alleged offender are not known to each other.

As the matter is now before the courts, police are unable to comment further.
