Body recovered after capsize

The body of a man has been located by searchers on the shoreline near Kaikoura following a boat capsizing this morning. A second person believed to have been on the vessel is yet to be located.

A member of the public reported seeing a capsized boat about 9am today off Atia Point, near South Bay, and raised the alarm. The stern of the boat was floating with its bow submerged in the water.

Police, Coastguard and search and rescue volunteers are involved in the search for the remaining crew member from the boat, believed to be a male.

The person whose body has been recovered was wearing a lifejacket.

The vessel has been towed to shore.
