The man killed in the crash on SH30 at Horohoro yesterday (Tuesday, 28 July) can now be named as Blair Amundsen, aged 35 from Kinleith.

Mr Amundsen died when a logging truck lost control and collided with the ute he was driving.

An investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.

Meanwhile police are praising the selfless actions of the 25-year-old driver of a second ute involved in the crash.

The collision caused logs to fall from the fully laden truck causing serious damage to his vehicle and narrowly missing the cab of the vehicle. Without any thought for his own lucky escape, the Rotorua man went straight to the other ute and pulled Mr Amundsen's 35-year-old wife and four-year-old son from their vehicle.
