A Dinsdale property is cordoned off today following an incident at a residential address where a young man suffered life threatening injuries prior to his death in hospital overnight.

Detective Senior Sergeant Daryl Smith of the Hamilton CIB said emergency services were called to the Tattersfield Pl address shortly before 4pm yesterday in relation to what is believed to be a domestic dispute.

"On arrival a 23-year-old man was found lying seriously injured in a driveway.

"Neighbours and local residents have provided first aid to the man before ambulance officers arrived and he was taken to Waikato Hospital in a critical condition. Unfortunately the victim died while undergoing surgery and at present his death is being treated as an unexplained death."

Mr Smith said as a result of the incident a scene guard was kept in place overnight to allow a scene examination to commence this morning.

"This examination is still underway and is being carried out by our staff alongside ESR forensic experts from Auckland. While this is taking place other members of the inquiry team are conducting an area canvas speaking to local residents as we work to piece together what has occurred.

"At this time matters are in a very formative stage. The public can best assist us at this point by coming forward if you were in the area at the time and saw or heard anything and you haven't already spoken to Police."

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Detective Sergeant Matt Cranshaw at the Hamilton Central Police Station on 07 858 6200.

Alternatively, information can be left anonymously with the independent Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
