1 min read

Attribute to Detective Inspector Darryl Sweeney:

Police are continuing to investigate the death of a woman who was found on the side of Main Rakaia Road, approximately 500m from State Highway 1.

The woman was located on Sunday evening at approximately 7.40pm by a member of the public who was driving past.

Police are still working to piece together exactly what has happened, and there are a number of enquiries which are still to be made.

The woman’s body has now been removed from the scene, however police and specialist staff will be remaining to complete further forensic examinations. The road also remains closed at this time.

Police are still working to ascertain the cause of the woman’s death, and a post-mortem is scheduled to take place tomorrow. However, the current circumstance lead us to believe this is a homicide investigation.

Police are also working to complete a formal identification of the victim. Until this has been done, and her family has been advised, police will not be in a position to release a name.
