Man arrested in Hunua following firearms incident

1 min read

Counties Manukau Police have arrested a 58 year old man as he left his home in Hunua this afternoon, following a firearms incident in Clevedon earlier in the day.

The man will appear in the Papakura District Court tomorrow 19 December charged with two counts of unlawful possession of a firearm.  Following the arrest Police located a loaded firearm in the man's vehicle and another inside his house.  A number of other firearms and ammunition was also located and seized.

Detective Senior Sergeant Aaron Proctor of the Papakura CIB said the Hunua and Clevedon communities should not be concerned following the seizure of the firearms.  "The seizure was required due to the man's actions earlier in the day.  While the carriage and storage of them was in breach of Arms Act requirements, we are confident that the community is not in danger."
