Media advisory - Debrief after first firearms collection event

1 min read

NZ Police would like to give the media the opportunity to attend a debrief at the conclusion of the first firearms collection event at Riccarton Racecourse on Saturday.

Police will give the media an overview of how the day went. Media will also have the opportunity to see the set-up of the event once the public is no longer present.

Photography and videography will be allowed inside the venue however media will be advised of parameters in place on arrival.

This weekend’s event is the first of 258 events that will run across the country over the next three months. More events will be listed soon on Police’s website to ensure that the firearms community gets every opportunity to hand in firearms before the amnesty ends on 20 December.

Please note: Collection events are for the safe and secure hand-in of firearms by owners and due to privacy considerations we will not be allowing the filming or photography of the public inside during collection events.

We ask that media respect the public’s wish for privacy and do not video or photograph any person or vehicle outside the venue without express permission. We trust you understand this is a sensitive time for some people.

Date: Saturday 13 July

Time: 3:15-3:45pm*

Location: Riccarton Racecourse, Show Gate room, 122 Racecourse Road, Sockburn, Christchurch

RSVP: please bring your media accreditation with you and RSVP to Andrea.Birtwistle2@police.govt.nz

*Media should be aware that the event will not begin until all members of the public have departed the venue therefore the time may change slightly.
