Inspector Herby Ngawhika

Rotorua will welcome new Area Commander Inspector Herby Ngawhika, Te Arawa, in a pōhiri to be held at Rotowhio Marae, Te Puia, on Monday, 19 December.

Inspector Ngawhika moves to the role from his position as Bay of Plenty Māori Responsiveness Manager, and has previously worked in frontline and CIB.

Born and raised in Rotorua, the Inspector brings a lot of local knowledge to the role.

He is well-known in the community holding a number of leadership roles. He is currently Chairman of the Rotorua Boys High School Board of Trustees and Pikirangi Marae, and sits on the Ngati Whakaue Education Endowment Trust.

He has spent two decades in Police and has been a key part of the establishment of Bay of Plenty’s Gang Harm Reduction Team.
