Report of indecent act on Railway Reserve at Stoke

Nelson Police are investigating a report that a school student was approached by a naked man on the Railway Reserve at Stoke. The man has performed an indecent act and the student has run away to safety.

This incident happened on a recent Friday evening, however it has been reported the man has also been seen at the Tahunanui touch fields and on the Railway Reserve at the back of Broadgreen School as recently as Monday this week.

Detective Sergeant Ian Langridge said Police consider this person poses a risk to the community and are very keen to identify him. He said Police will have an increased presence in the area until the person is identified.

The offender Police want to identify is a Pakeha male in his 30s or 40s with salt and pepper coloured hair and a goatee beard. He is described as tall, with a fat stomach. On the most recent occasion he was wearing knee length shorts and a grey top.

Police ask residents with properties backing on to the Railway Reserve to keep an eye out for someone fitting this description. They believe someone in the Stoke area will be able to identify this man.

Police also ask parents to reinforce the Keeping Yourself Safe messages to their children such as walking in groups, looking after your friends and not going with strangers.
