1 min read

Counties Manukau Police investigating the serious assault of a man in Rollerson Street in Papakura have arrested and charged a 21 year-old man in relation to the incident.

Police were called to the address last night at around 8pm, to reports of a group of people fighting. When Police arrived a 30 year-old man was found lying unconcious in the street.

The fight is believed to have broken out between a group of people who were holding a party and persons from a neighbouring address.

Initial reports were that the victim had been stabbed in the head, however further inquiries now indicate that he has been hit in the head with a heavy object.

The victim has undergone surgery at Auckland Hospital and remains in a serious condition.

The 21 year-old arrested man has been charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. He will appear in the Papakura District Court tomorrow.

Police are interviewing a number of people who were present during the fight, but believe there may be other people who have witnessed this incident and are encouraging them to come forward and speak with Police.

Anyone who can provide information is asked to call the Counties Manukau Police on 09 295 0200. Information can also be provided anonymously to the organisation Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

The incident is now before the courts and no further comment will be made at this time.
