Emergency services have responded to a serious crash at the intersection of Pourerere Road and River Road near Waipawa.
The crash, between two vehicles, occurred around 7pm.
Initial indications are that one person sustained critical injuries and another sustained serious injuries. Both have been taken to hospital.
Five other people were assessed by Ambulance at the scene but do not appear to have sustained any serious injuries.
The Serious Crash Unit have attended the scene. A police investigation into the cause of the crash is underway.
Pourerere Road is currently blocked at the intersections with Tod Road and Hautope Road. River Road is blocked at the Elsthorpe Road turnoff.
The roads are expected to remain closed for at least two hours and diversions are in place.
