Shot fired in Mangere

1 min read

At about 6:40pm tonight, three Police officers went to an address in Mangere to make an arrest.  On arrival, Police were set upon by family members of the wanted man.  At this time, a man at the address presented what Police believe to be a firearm.  One of the officers believed he was in danger and in response one shot was fired by Police.

Police retreated from the scene and the address was cordoned and contained until further staff including AOS arrived.  Police have subsequently taken one man into custody and are still searching for another man.

There is no indication at this stage that anyone was hit by or injured as a result of the shot fired by Police.  A full investigation into the circumstances is underway and as per standard practice the IPCA has been notified.

Anyone in the area who has seen anything or has any knowledge of this incident should contact Police as soon as possible.

This is a preliminary statement in the immediate aftermath of the incident.  More information will be available tomorrow.

The name and an image of the man still wanted by Police will follow tonight.
