Stolen vehicle used in failed attempts to steal ATMs

1 min read

Police are seeking information on a stolen vehicle that was used to try and steal two cash machines in Eastern Bay of Plenty early this morning.

The first attempt occurred at a service station in Edgecumbe at approximately 1.50am. The offenders used a chain on the back of an Izuzu Wizard to try to pull a cash machine from the wall. When that attempt failed they travelled to Kawerau and did the same at Tarawera Mall. Again the thieves were unsuccessful, but in both cases they caused significant damage to the buildings.

At least two male offenders were in the vehicle which is a 1996 Izuzu Wizard registration number JCJ5 stolen from  Kawerau earlier this week. It is described as silver/gold metallic in colour and will now have some rear end damage, including a broken taillight.

Police want to hear from anyone who knows the location of this vehicle or who has been in possession of this vehicle. Information is also sought in relation to the attempted cash machine thefts and those involved.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Kawerau Police on 07 323 1400. Information can also be provided anonymously to the organisation Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
