Train and truck collision at Kumeu - Update

1 min read

At around 10.30am this morning Police were called to a crash at the intersection of Trotting Course and Waitakere Roads in Kumeu.

A light truck has collided with a freight train on a level crossing. As a result the truck has been shunted around 60 metres along the railway line.

The crash happened on a rail crossing controlled by lights and bells.

The sole occupant of the truck, a man in his early sixties, has suffered serious injuries.

He has been airlifted to Auckland Hospital by the Westpac Rescue Chopper.

The Waitemata Serious Crash Unit is investigating the crash in conjunction with KiwiRail. The investigation will look into whether the lights and the bells on the crossing were working at the time of the crash and it is too early for Police to make any further comment on this factor.
