Two come forward over Christchurch tagging

1 min read

Two men at opposite ends of the country have presented themselves to Police today in relation to enquiries over the tagging of the CTV Building site and other locations in central Christchurch.

A 27-year old man walked into the Henderson Police Station in Auckland this morning to speak to Police about his involvement in the alleged tagging.

Shortly after midday a 21-year old Christchurch man presented himself at the Christchurch Central Police Station over the same incidents.

Both men will be interviewed by Police over the tagging, which occurred at multiple sites around central Christchurch on the night of Saturday 3 August.

Today's developments come after security camera photographs and video of three men in the central city were published in news media and posted on the Christchurch Police Facebook page yesterday.

Senior Sergeant Phil Dean of Christchurch Police says the Auckland man had been visiting Christchurch from Auckland over the weekend of 3 August.

"It's a good result that these men have come forward and contacted us. We are grateful for the assistance of news media and those people who contacted us with information."

No decision has yet been made on any charges that may be laid in relation to the two men.

Senior Sergeant Dean says Police are continuing to make enquiries into the identity of the third person seen in the security camera footage.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Christchurch Police District Command Centre on (03) 3637580.

Alternatively, to provide information anonymously contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
