Police are continuing to make enquiries after a death in Blenheim yesterday.
Just before 1:30pm, Police were called to Wairau Bar Road after the body of an infant was discovered on the side of the road by a machinery operator.
Police are working to determine the circumstances in which the body came to be at this location.
A scene examination was completed today, and Wairau Bar Road has since re-opened to the public.
As part of our enquiries, we are extremely concerned about the welfare of the mother and wider family of this infant.
Police would like to speak with them as soon as possible to ensure they receive the support that they require at this time.
