Update on incident in Christchurch

Attribute to Canterbury District Commander Superintendent John Price:

Police have located a package containing a suspected explosive device and ammunition at a vacant address on Newcastle Street in Christchurch.

The NZDF EOD team have rendered the package safe.

A 33-year-old Christchurch man has been arrested and is assisting Police with enquiries.

We would like to thank nearby residents and members of the public affected by cordons and evacuations for their patience.

Cordons are being stood down.

Members of the community are asked to continue to report any concerning behaviour or activity in their neighbourhoods as we all work together to ensure the safety of our community.
