Witnesses sought following serious assault in Gisborne

Police are appealing for witnesses after a serious assault in Gisborne. 

A 41-year-old man on a morning walk was attacked by three people on Valley Rd between James St and Gordon Street yesterday, Friday 29 March, between 6am - 6:30am. 

The man sustained multiple injuries including facial injuries, stab wounds and lacerations to his body. He has been admitted to Gisborne Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

Police are appealing for any information members of the public may have about this attack.

The attackers are described as Maori males in their 20s. One was clean shaven with short hair and a black hooded jersey.

The other two were wearing black clothing and had their faces covered.

The attackers were on foot and were last seen walking either down Gordon Street toward Winter Street, or Ormond Road toward Winter Street.

An unprovoked attack of this nature is of serious concern to Police.
