Napier residents had the chance to have a 'Coffee with a Cop' on Wednesday thanks to a partnership between Hawke’s Bay Police, Safer Napier and the Napier City Council.

The aim of the initiative is to give the community easy access to Police outside of the formal Police station setting. Napier City Council and Safer Napier work with Police to roll out the initiative.

Safer Napier is a collaboration of over 40 agencies, organisations and community groups working together to make Napier a safe and healthy city.

And plenty of people took up the opportunity to ask questions, discuss concerns, and find out more about policing as a career.

Five cafes in Napier offered free coffee to whoever wanted to come along to meet their local police officer.

Napier Area Response Manager Senior Sergeant Steven Nicoll says questions ranged from how safe Napier is to what’s the best and worst things about being a police officer.

“Coffee with a Cop is a great opportunity to connect with our community in a relaxed setting," he says.

It’s the fourth year the initiative has been run in Napier.
