When the doors of their kura finally reopened after Cyclone Gabrielle ripped through the region, the first thing students at Taradale Primary School wanted to do was thank the organisations that helped.

To show their awhi and aroha, students made cards with messages of appreciation and delivered them to first responders and emergency services, including Police.

Sergeant Andrew (Anaru) Graham says gestures like this are hugely appreciated.

“Some of the cards included pictures of Eagle,” Anaru says.

“We wanted to show them how much we appreciated their efforts, so we got some of the kids along to meet the Eagle crew and check out our ‘eye in the sky’.”

The three students were delighted to receive their own Police teddy bear.

Three Year 5 students, accompanied by their teacher Raelene Hill, met the Eagle crew at Hawke’s Bay Airport where they got to ask questions, explore Eagle and find out more about how it helps us respond to major events.

Thanks for having us Hawke’s Bay Airport and thanks to the students at Taradale Primary School for their kind messages.
