Police in Hamilton are investigating an alleged carjacking on Dominion Road on Wednesday 29th May.

At about 6am as the victim was driving to work, she was waved down by an unknown woman. The woman was asking for a ride and as the victim was safety conscious she only wound down her window a small amount but at this point, the woman called over a man and they both forced the window down. The woman reached into the car and unbuckled the victim’s seatbelt and dragged her out of the car, throwing her to the ground.

The victim was absolutely terrified during the ordeal but she managed to get descriptions of the attackers.

The female was described as:

  • Māori of a fair complexion
  • Approx 19-20 years old
  • Approx 156cm / 5’1”
  • Skinny build
  • Dark hair
  • Wearing a one piece red jacket and pants.

The male was described as:

  • Māori
  • Approx 25 years old
  • Approx 180cm / 5’10”
  • Solid build
  • Short hair
  • Possibly a moustache
  • Wearing a cream coloured waterproof jacket

The car has been captured on CCTV about an hour later in Insoll Ave, Enderley where three people are seen with the car and as the driver wipes down the car, the backseat passenger sets the petrol tank alight. The three people walked off toward Blake Street and a neighbour called the fire service after seeing the car on fire.

Hamilton Police would like to hear from anyone who knows anything about the carjacking or may know the people seen in the CCTV.
