Taupo Police are investigating an alleged hit and run on Richmond Ave, Richmond Heights on Friday 21 June.

At about 11:15pm, the victim, Supriya and her friends were walking along Richmond Ave after a night of socialising. As they walked toward Ingle Ave, Supriya was walking just off the grass verge when she was struck but a white ute that had turned from Ingle Ave.

Supriya was thrown quite some distance and her friends rushed to her and phoned 111.

The white ute continued along Richmond Ave without stopping to help her. Police are confident the driver would have known they had hit someone.

The ute is described as a double cab ute with four doors, white in colour and it is likely that after this incident, it will have some damage to the front. Police would like to hear from anyone who knows of any repair work being done on the front of a white ute since Friday 21 June.

Supriya was subsequently put into a medically-induced coma and suffered multiple injuries. Her condition has recently improved but it will be a very long recovery.

Police have canvassed CCTV in the area and have identified a ute on Ingle Ave turning into Richmond Ave just before Supriya was struck. Police believe this is the ute they are looking for and urge the driver to come forward.

Also seen on CCTV travelling just ahead of the ute is a white sedan. Police are not saying this vehicle is involved in the hit and run but they may have valuable information.

Taupo Police would like to hear from anyone who knows anything about this case.
