Police in Dunedin are investigating an alleged attempted robbery at the 10’O’clock Dairy in St Kilda on Monday 17th February.

At about 12:49pm, a male entered the store on Prince Albert Road with a towel wrapped around his head and armed with a knife. He walked up to the counter and presented the knife to the shopkeeper who was working on her own at the time. Fearing for her safety, she activated the security fog cannon. The male then ran out of the dairy in the same direction he’s came from, through the Prince Albert Road and Douglas Road intersection.

While the suspect didn’t get away with anything, there’s a real concern they might strike again. His intentions were clear and he’s a real risk to the St Kilda community.

The male was described as:

  • Approx 151-155cm
  • Slim build
  • Neatly cut shaved hair with distinct fringe
  • Wearing dark clothing and brown sandals

Moments afterwards, when this male has been running away, CCTV footage has picked up a blue station wagon driving into the area. The police are not saying this vehicle was involved in any way but they may have seen this male and any information could be helpful. Police would like to hear from the occupants of this vehicle.

Anyone else with information are urged to contact Dunedin Police.
