Police in Waitemata are investigating an alleged aggravated robbery and assault on a paramedic at the St John Ambulance Station in Warkworth on Sunday 12th January.

At about 11:26pm a female paramedic was returning to the station during her shift when she spotted a male suspect suddenly come in to view from one of doors inside. The male entered the ambulance and violently dragged the victim out and rendered her unconscious.

Police and other paramedics arrived soon after and found the victim in a groggy state with bloodied injuries to her face. The male had fled the scene with a quantity of pain reliever drugs. Penthrox, also known as Green Whistle, as well as an amount of Tramadol was taken from the premises.

Due to the nature of the incident, the victim didn’t get a good look at the alleged attacker but described him as a male and was wearing shorts.

Police want to focus on the drugs that were taken from the station. Somebody out there will know somebody around 12th January period who had possession of the specific drugs that were taken and whether they’re using it for themselves or whether the motivation is to supply to others in the community.

Police would also like to speak with the man pictured in the CCTV footage. While they are not saying he was involved in the assault in any way, he may have valuable information.

This was an extreme and unnecessary use of violence against a woman operating a vital service to the community.

Anyone with any information is urged to contact Waitemata Police.
