Police in Counties Manukau are investigating an alleged aggravated robbery at a bar on Tidal Road in Mangere, on Monday 24th February.

At about 11:20pm, two males entered the premises via a rear courtyard which is not accessed by the public. One male was armed with a pistol and the other male was wearing a distinctive security uniform and carrying a cut down rifle.

The bar was closed for the night and as two staff members were in the gaming area emptying out the gaming machines. The male with the pistol went straight through to the gaming area and pointed the gun at one of the staff members. The bar staff totally complied and yet the male bar staff member was struck with a vicious blow from the butt of the pistol to his head.

The man in the security uniform then picked up a green Carlsberg bag which had the takings of the gaming machines. He forced the female worker to open the till and empty the takings into the bag. They then left heading right along Tidal Road.

The male with the pistol is described as:

  • Māori or Pacific Islander
  • Early 20s
  • Athletic / muscular build
  • Black Hoody
  • Green hat
  • Blue shorts with black stripes down it
  • Distinctive (new) black shoes with pronounced white soles
  • Distinctive orange glove

The male with the cut down rifle is described as:

  • Māori or Pacific Islander
  • Blue Long sleeved security uniform
  • New York Yankees cap
  • Sunglasses and tie
  • Black pants, belt and shoes
  • Portraying a security guard
  • Black bag with reddy/orange inside
  • Walks with a distinctive stride.

Police inquires have revealed that though it was a legitimate security shirt, they do not believe that the male was a security guard.
