Police in Counties Manukau are investigating an aggravated robbery that occurred on the 10th of May 2021 at the HM Café in the Māngere Town Square.

At around 2pm a male entered the HM Café armed with a knife, he went straight to the counter and approached the lone victim, he demanded that she give him the money then proceeded to try and open the till himself. After being unable to open the till he walked around the counter, trapping the victim in a tight space whilst still trying to open the till. After several failed attempts he became frustrated and ripped the till off the top of the counter and ran from the store with it.

CCTV captures him running through the carpark and down an alleyway which leads onto Windrush Close and Cape Road, but it is unknown where he goes from there.

The victim has been left traumatised and doesn’t feel safe coming into work, and she says at one point during the robbery she closed her eyes fearing she would die.

CCTV has also tracked the suspect 15-20 minutes prior, hanging around and using the town centre toilets. Police believe this to be the same male based on the clothing he is wearing.

The suspect is described as:

  • 5’9” / 175cm tall;
  • Wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt on, hood up,
  • Sunglasses,
  • Camouflage jacket over top,
  • Holding large kitchen knife.

Thanks to great CCTV Police are certain someone out there must recognise this man and they urge that anyone who knows anything to come forward and speak to Police before he strikes again.
