Police in Wellington are investigating an alleged home invasion that occurred in January.

At around 10.30pm on Sunday 3rd January on Darwin Street in Karori, three masked males burst into the male victim’s house demanding valuables.

The female victim, who was about to have a shower, heard the commotion and walked out to see three masked men, one of whom had the male victim in a chokehold on the floor.  The female victim pleaded with them not to hurt him, and she was hit by one of the men with his left hand, who then began choking her.

The male victim told the men everything he has is in the bedroom, where they then ran to look for items of value, before taking the male victim’s car keys and driving off in his car. The men also took a white wooden box measuring 30cm long, which contained valuables, including a Reader’s Digest folding knife with a bone handle.

The three men have been described as adult Māori or Pacific Islanders of medium to solid build. They all had their faces covered, however, one is described as having distinctive bulging eyes.

The male victim’s car was recovered by Hawkes Bay Police a month later, on the 4th of February. Police would like to speak to anyone who saw a distinctive Black Honda with four black rims, and a light tan interior. They would also like to speak to anyone who has seen the items taken from the victims’ house.

The victims have been left traumatised by this terrifying ordeal, in which they were subjected to an unnecessary degree of violence, so Police urge anyone who may have information to contact Wellington Police.
